The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC has revealed that the citizens of Nigeria within the age of 20 and 40 are responsible for the rapid spread of coronavirus.
The Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, during PTF COVID-19 briefing on Thursday in Abuja said that Nigerian youths between the ages of 20 and 40 are majorly responsible for the spread of the COVID-19.
The NCDC Director has issued a warning to Nigerian youths regarding their safety, adding that older people from 50 years and above are the ones mostly dying from the disease.
The recent number of new cases of Nigeria has increased the total of confirmed cases in the country to 27,110
Dr. Chikwu said: “As more people are infected across the world, the numbers are increasing.
“It is obvious that transmission among younger people really, not children, but people aged between 20 and 40 as far as we know are really driving the spread of this virus, but those that are bearing the brunt of it are people age 50 and above.
“Three out of five people who died from COVID-19 are 50 and above so we have to work harder, all of us collectively to protect the elderly in our midst.
He further urged Nigerians to remember to observe safety measures despite the relaxation of restrictions and opening of airports.
“Everyone needs to show the elderly citizens love and affection by not exposing them to the virus,” he added.
