Following the Appeal Court ruling that affirmed the suspension of the embattled Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the party has been thrown into its worst crises, such that it’s survival beyond 2023 is now in doubt.
Over the past couple of months, the embattled Chairman seem not to have gotten along with several persons in the party which has led to the loss of some strategic states in Nigeria to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Because the Party seem not to have gotten it’s act together over the past few days, listed below are the States in Nigeria that may not produce an APC governor for many years to come, that is if they manage to survive the present crises.
1. Edo State: This is a State that the APC may never govern again if they manage to survive the next few years. Not only because Governor Godwin Obaseki has walked out of the party, but because the people now has a large distrust for the party following the messy battle for supremacy between the incumbent Governor Obaseki and his political godfather, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. Notable persons who are resident within and outside the State are confident that the APC will never again govern the State
2. Benue State: We can not forget in a hurry the battle that raged between the ruling APC and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State prior to the last general elections in 2019. The battle not only led to the governor openly castigating the party that gave him the first term ticket to govern the State, the governor ended up dumping the party and picking the governorship form of the PDP under which he won a re-election. The governor has been able to make the PDP an attractive alternative for the good people of Benue. If all the signs on ground is anything to go by, APC may never produce a Governor in Benue State.
3. Zamfara State: Following the woeful performance of the previous governors of Zamfara State, residents of the State seem to have a new lease of life under the current dispensation of the PDP governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle has been the key driver in the transformation of the State. The people may not want to change a winning horse.
4. Bayelsa State: It came as a huge surprise to many when David Lyon broke the tradition by emerging as the APC Governor of Bayelsa over Duoye Diri of the PDP. This is because ever since Democracy was restored in 1999, No other political party has governed the State aside from the PDP. Now that the APC has lost the State as a result of the Supreme Court judgement, it could be said for a fact that the APC may never govern the State again.
