Willie Obiano, Anambra State governor, has warned traders and churches to keep the COVID -19 rules as specified or watch him close them again.
The Governor on Tuesday night announced that any person who fails to wear face masks attracts a fine of N10,000 and community service while he addressed the people during his state broadcast to update them on the current COVID -19 situation.
He added that the state had done its best since the outbreak of the global pandemic and that his government would do everything to protect the lives of the people.
According to him, the state has 8 patients in their Protective Care Centers, 69 individuals on home quarantine, and 2 individuals in the facility-based quarantine.
He assured that they shall continue to push back at this pandemic until we have reduced its presence in Anambra State.
The governor noted that they are increasing their testing capacity to ensure that they slow down the spread of this pandemic in the state.
He had signed the Covid-19 Bill into law making it an offense to be seen in the public without a face mask.
Failure to follow the law results in a fine of ten thousand naira or hours of community service.
He re-emphasized during the broadcast that his administration is determined to enforce this law.
Information from different quarters had indicated that the people have started lowering their guard on the Covid-19 protocols.
Traders in various markets no longer comply with the enforcement of the wearing of face masks and the washing of hands of which the governor threatens to shut down the markets if this trend is not halted with immediate effect.
He also claims to have similar reports from churches and other religious groups in the state that most of them have discarded the wearing of face masks.
The governor however urged the leadership of all religious bodies in Anambra State to ensure compliance with the standard protocols of Covid-19 without further delay.
