The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has announced that there are series of fake COVID-19 drugs going round the country.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, said that agency discovered some fake Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine in circulation going round the country.
This was disclosed during a statement Adeyeye gave during a webinar in Lagos State. And he also state that there are fake face masks and hand sanitizers were in circulation.
She said this discovery was made during a close supervision of COVID-19 medical products.
The Moji Adeyeye stated that the post-marketing surveillance is part and parcel of NAFDAC. She also said that they, NAFDAC, stepped it up because we knew that companies were changing formula and formulations for us.
She mentioned also that they saw falsified Chloroquine without any active ingredients in it and also fake face sanitizers and masks. She said that NAFDAC will take drastic measures against those found guilty of this crime.
During her speech, The Director-General said, “Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are some of the therapeutics that Nigeria is using for clinical trial treatment only. We started with Chloroquine and then Hydroxychloroquine came in.”
