Maesaiah Thabane, Lesotho’s former first lady, was arrested over the murder of the previous wife of her husband and former prime minister, Thomas Thabane, on Wednesday police said.
The Lesotho’s Appeal Court revoked had her bail last week on suspicion that procedure was not followed correctly when her bail was granted.
Maesaiah Thabane was taken to court, where she wore an anti-coronavirus mask, a fur coat, and black protective, a witness said.
June 6 was set for a new bail application. Maesaiah Thabane was charged with ordering the killing of Lipolelo Thabane, her love rival, who was shot dead near her home in Lesotho’s capital, Maseru, in June 2017 of which Maesaiah Thabane was later released on bail in February.
Thomas Thabane resigned as prime minister in May as the case had been causing serious political instability in the independent mountain kingdom of two million people encircled by South Africa.
Thomas Thabane is also a suspect in the murder, however, he denies any involvement and has yet to be formally charged.
