Through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) the Federal Government has distributed relief materials to the victims in Raba and Wurno local government areas of Sokoto State.
Reports show that this gesture was facilitated by Arc. Ibrahim Almustpha representing Wurno and Raba Federal Constituency, in recognition of the series of kidnappings, animals rustling, and banditry attacks his constituents.
On Friday, during the distribution of the relief materials, Dr. Kofoworola Soleye, NEMA’s Head of Sokoto zonal office, said “Almustpha relentlessly requested support to the people affected with disasters following it up until it was given approval by the Federal Government”.
Mr Tukur Abubakar the Zonal Planning Officer representing Soleye said that “items were 350 bags of 12.5 kilogrammes of rice and millet each, 60 cartons of bath soap, 20 kegs of palm oil, and 100 cartons of detergents amongst others”.
Other items reported to have been present were800 pieces of blankets, guinea brocades, plastic buckets, and wax prints each along with 349 pieces of mosquito nets and 500 pieces of children wear.
Building materials include 300 bags of cement, 300 bundles of roofing, 150 packets of Zink’s nails, bags of 3’’8 nails, 300 pieces of ceiling boards and sheets.
It was noted that the distribution was approved by AVM Mohammed, the NEMA Director-General, Hajia Sadiya Umar the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, and President Muhammadu Buhari.
Alhaji Shehu Chacho represented Rep. Almustapha also said that the gesture was part of the effort of President Buhari to keep the country stable in this pandemic with series of assistance packages distributed to victims and commended all that made it possible for a prompt response.
Alhaji Shehu Chacho added that the lawmaker has strived hard to support victims through personal assistance and facilitating governmental support, noting that over 3,000 persons were affected in 26 communities within the constituency.
Malam Umar Ahmadu-Raba the distribution committee chairman, said that the committee members screened about 478 beneficiaries directly affected by the banditry activities in Wurno and Raba local government areas of Sokoto.
The beneficiaries thanked all the government for the kind gesture as they lost about 60 cows along with other valuables to bandits after they jointly paid them N1.9 million levy enforced on them.
