Recently, the federal government has given an update about a new programme to employ 1,000 Nigerians from each of the 774 local government areas of the country.
According to the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, the said programme will start on October 1.
This he announced on the yesterday at a press conference.
He also added that the said beneficiaries of the projects are to be selected by special committees in each state of the federation. And they would be tasked with recommending the name for the programme from each of the 774 local government areas of the country to the ministry of labour.
Festus Keyamo noted that the beneficiaries will be paid the sum of N20,000 every month to carry out public work.
He also disclosed that a website would be set up where the list of the selected candidates including chosen projects would be shown to the general public.
In response to this, President Muhammadu Buhari has solicited for the approval of $5.5 billion loans to oversee the revised 2020 appropriation bill so that these priority projects are taken care of.
The information of the loan was written in a letter forwarded to the House of Representatives by the president on May 28.
The loan will also be used to bring to the balance healthcare system, smallholder farmers, and care for critical medical supplies to fight the pandemic.
”The funds will be used for the federal government’s top projects and will be used to fight against Covid-19 pandemic” the president added.
The funds will be used to assist all states in a concentrated effort against the pandemic and assist the repositioning of some of the major sectors of the economy.
This has shown that the federal government is working relentlessly to stabilize the economy of our dear nation.
