Job Title: Business Development Manager – Distribution, SSA

About the team

  • Distribution Partnerships are a critical means by which we support various company objectives including user growth & retention, marketing & brand, data & infrastructure, content, and product / tech.
  • Our primary focus is on telecom, product/developer, and connected screens, with ongoing opportunity to engage in other spaces and other verticals.
  • Since 2018, the Distribution team has seen nothing but explosive growth, and we’re growing even faster in 2022!
  • This high-speed role requires an individual with excellent partnership building skills, deal negotiation experience, technical aptitude, unwavering perseverance and ambitious thinking.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Distribution leadership to take Telecom and related partnership concepts from inception to pilot to scale
  • Idea new business opportunities for TikTok and Mobile operators that create “Win-Win” scenarios for TikTok, Partners and End Users.
  • Lead the deal team to structure and close Telecom & related partnership agreements including LOI, Term Sheet and Long-form Partnership Agreements
  • Maintain a deep and detailed working knowledge of Telecom & Mobile Operators in SSA, including key industry trends, key industry players and industry norms.
  • Convince diverse internal and external teams to adopt your ambitious ideas through actionable business plans and concise data storytelling.

  • This position can be based in either South Africa (Johannesburg), Nigeria (Lagos) or Kenya (Nairobi).

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelors Degree.
  • Interested applicants must have 5 – 7 years experience of Business Development experience with a focus on Tech, mobile app or digital media partnerships in SSA region.
  • Exceptional communication skills across geographies and industries.
  • Powerful documentation, storytelling and research skills.
  • Significant experience in structuring complex partnerships including negotiation of partnership agreements and consumer marketing or B2B2C plans
  • Language: Business proficiency in writing, reading and speaking in English, and French-speaking skills are preferred but not required.
  • Computer skills: Mastery of PowerPoint, Excel and their many equivalents.
  • Quick with a funny GIF. SQL, HTML or other programming languages encouraged.

About the Job

  • The Content Partnerships Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa will be responsible for implementing strategy and spearheading localisation to grow the lifestyle and education vertical. The vertical includes categories like fashion, beauty, food, travel, motivation, and other instructional content.
  • This position can be based in South Africa, Nigeria, or Kenya

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Acquire, onboard, and foster strong relationships with content partners.
  • Negotiate and execute partner agreements to unlock differentiated outcomes through partnerships.
  • Develop a comprehensive localized approach to drive partner development and growth, focusing on PGC/PUGC (top publishers, public figures).
  • Use data and experience to define unique strategies to suit local market needs.
  • Track, analyze, and optimize the performance of local content partners.
  • Deliver account performance reviews for top partners to drive performance and growth and build strategic alignment.
  • Increase publisher content quality, platform engagement, and audience growth, as well as analyze individual and overall creator performance.
  • Use creative thinking for campaign ideation and to enhance the quality of the content.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above, with a minimum of 4+ years in an external facing partner role or creator facing experience in TV/media or Internet, working with talent and content creators.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, negotiating, and executing content partnerships. This is not an advertising, or sales role.
  • Keen interest in lifestyle and education across Sub-Saharan Africa and the ability to influence others in the space.
  • Existing relationships with a network of top creators, influencers, brands, publishers, institutions, and content partners within categories such as fashion, beauty, food, travel, motivation, and other instructional content lead them towards partnership.
  • Deep understanding of the publisher and creator landscape.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable providing partner support over the phone, email/web, and in-person.
  • Proven track record of operating independently, demonstrating creativity, strong attention to detail, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to adapt to business needs and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent communicator in written and verbal form.
