Daniel Pondei, acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reportedly slumped twice Monday during interrogation by the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC.
He received medical attention and was promptly rushed to the hospital.
Mr Pondei was answering questions posed by lawmakers as he appeared before the lawmakers who are probing the finances of the NDDCwhen he slumped.
This unfortunate incident may lead to an extension of the probe, initially slated for two days but is currently on its fourth day.
Mr Pondei was asked by Shehu Koko, a lawmaker to explain the N642 million paid to a company known as Clear Point Communication.
The NDDC chief was also required to explain a total sum of N536 million paid to Save Life Campaign in the oil-rich region and to give concrete evidence that they were all budgeted for in the 2019 Appropriation Act.
Mr Pondei told the lawmakers that N642 million paid to Clear Point Communication to train locals and to help locate and identify NDDC projects in the area.
However, Mr Pondei could not confirm that the payments were budgeted for as he asks the lawmakers to give him sufficient time to provide the budget.
It was during this question and answer section that Mr pondei collapsed, sweating profusely and was subsequently rushed out of the venue of the hearing.
The probing was then adjourned for 30 minutes.
When the hearing resumed, Majority Leader Alhassan Doguwa and Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila joined the committee members to continue with the sitting.
