Kidnapped Delta NLC chairman regains freedom- see how

It was a black Saturday as Goodluck Ofobruku, Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta State, was reported kidnapped by hoodlums.

 

It was gathered that the union leader was kidnapped around 8 pm on Saturday while driving out of his house behind the Immigration office along Ibusa/Asaba road in the Delta State capital.

 

A report had it that the hoodlums attacked a beer joint on the street before they kidnapped Ofobruku.

 

The state NLC Secretary, Innocent Ofoyade, said that Ofobruku was driving an NLC branded Sienna bus to get drugs that night when the incident occurred, adding that Ofobruku was intercepted by the hoodlums along his street and that the abductors were yet to establish contact with the family of the victim.

 

Onome Onovwakpoyeya, Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the abduction on Sunday, said “It is a case of armed robbery and abduction.

But there is good news.

 The kidnapped Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta State,  Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku has regained his freedom after paying an undisclosed amount of money.

The Labour leader who was abducted around 8 pm on Saturday while driving out of his house behind Immigration office along Ibusa/Asaba road, Asaba, the Delta State capital, was set free on Monday by his abductors.

Confirming his release to our correspondent, the Secretary of the NLC in the State, Comrade Innocent Ofoyade, noted that Ofobruku was released on Monday night

He said, Yes, we thank God that our chairman was released yesterday night, we are grateful to the state government, the police, vigilante group and all those who show concerned.

Ofoyade said, “ransom was paid but it is an undisclosed amount, and as I speak to you now, he is receiving treatment because he was injured at the process”

Also, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Hafiz Inuwa confirmed the NLC chairman released, adding that he was not aware of any payment of ransom.

The CO thank and give glory to God for his release adding that to the best of his knowledge, no amount was paid.

The police boss stressed that the command was intensifying efforts to arrest the suspects
