News Update: Federal Government to Announce the Third Phase of Eased Lockdown on Tuesday

The Federal Government has declared that the third phase of eased lockdown will be carried out on Tuesday.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, after a meeting with the president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

Mustapha said that taskforce members also briefed and submitted their recommendations on the ongoing efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 to the President Buhari for approval and for the next measures to be put in place.

Others in the delegation were the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire; the Coordinator of the PTF on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu; and the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu.

Previously, President Buhari had on April 27 announced the gradual easing of a five-week lockdown in FCT, Lagos and Ogun states.

He also extended the first phase of the lockdown by two weeks which elapsed midnight on June 1 and the second phase was implemented over four weeks spanning from June 2nd – 29th.

In the second phase, the government relaxed restrictions on banking operations and worship places, while it retained nationwide curfew but reduced the time from 10pm to 4am, to limit social interactions.
