Cross River Lawmaker dies of ‘Corona Virus complications’

A Member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the lawmaker representing Obudu State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Godwin Akwaji, has died.

 

It was reported that the lawmaker died on Thursday at the isolation centre of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. He was suspected to have died of Coronavirus after showing symptoms of the virus.

 

Family sources said before the death of the lawmaker, he was diabetic and exhibited fatigue, fever, cough, breathlessness.

 

He added that the deceased had been treated for malaria and pneumonia with no improvement.

 

The source added that some persons who visited the lawmaker at the hospital are already showing symptoms of COVID-19.

 

Cross River is the only state where any case of COVID-19 has not been confirmed in the country.
