NYSC Achieves National Unity – President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari says he is often pleased to see the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) fulfilling the purpose of national unity that motivated its creation in 1973.
President Muhammadu Buhari told the newsmen on Friday at his country home in Daura, Katsina State, after the Eid-el-Kabir prayers that the NYSC programme have been pursuing the aim of integrating the country over the years.
He noted that diversity of cultures is Nigeria’s greatest strength.
“I am always pleased to see corps members in Daura and other parts of the country. From the postings, we get to learn more about other cultures,’’ he said.
President Muhammadu Buhari said that the indication that the dream of a unified Nigeria is a reality is the large number of corps posted mostly from the southern part of the country to Daura, Katsina State. He also noted that graduates from the North, who served in southern states, also learnt a lot from the diversity in culture that makes Nigeria an exceptional country.
President Muhammadu Buhari said that some southern parts of the country like Lagos and Ibada n gave him rich experiences when he worked as an army officer in different parts of the country.
The corps members in Daura always throng the president’s house for the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir. President Muhammadu Buhari was escorted to the Eid-el-Kabir prayers by presidential aides, members of his family and neighbors.
SAFETY OF CORPS MEMBERS IN ALL PARTS OF THE COUNTRY
The Management of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC wishes to assure Corps members that it remains committed to ensuring their safety wherever they are serving in the country. This assurance becomes necessary in view of the recent sensational remarks credited to some sectional groups. Management is in constant liaison with state governments, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders with a view to ensuring that our Corps members carry out their national assignment without let or hindrance Corps members as well as their parents and guardians are, therefore, enjoined to remain calm as proactive steps are being taken to ensure their safety and general welfare are not compromised. Furthermore, as we encourage Corps members to go about their normal businesses, we advised them to, as usual, continue to be security-conscious and to report any suspicious movement to the appropriate authorities.
