SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION/NECO GCE (SSCE External)

The NECO GCE is out -This is the examination taken by candidates in their last stage of Secondary Education. The SSCE is in two categories. One is for candidates in the third and final year of their secondary education and it is called SSCE Internal. The Second is SSCE External and is for candidates not in the School system.
Another core component of the mandate of the Council as espoused in the Enabling law is the conduct of the Senior School Certificate Examination for External Candidates.
Candidates should also note that the registration procedure has been designed to accommodate biometric features that will be used for validation at the exam center.
The examination body had in December last year announced that the private candidates examination formerly known as Nov/Dec NECO GCE Exam, conducted once a year will now be conducted twice a year in January/February and August/September starting from 2017.
EXTERNAL SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION
The above examination is to be taken by candidates in their last lap of their Secondary School Education.
We will like to inform you that there are two categories in the SSCE. They are for candidates in the 3rd and final year of their senior secondary school, it is generally called SSCE internal and the other category is known as the SSCE external and this are for students not in the school system. That is candidates who are not in a secondary school or better still they can be referred to as private student.
The SSCE external has seventy-six (76) subjects, and these subjects are grouped into the below listed categories.
- Compulsory Cross-Cutting Subjects
2. Science and Mathematics
3. Technology
4. Humanities
5. Business Studies and
6. Trade/Entrepreneurship
We will also like to inform you that the minimum number of subjects an SSCE candidate can sit for is eight (8) and the maximum is nine (9).
