Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Programmes:
All Humanities Ph.D Programmes require a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale except English Studies and History & Diplomatic Studies which require a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale. In addition candidates must score a minimum of 60% in the admission interview to be found admissible.

M.A. Comparative Literature
Ph.D Comparative Literature
Requirements for MA Comparative Literature Programme:
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 points on a 5-point scale or its equivalent in Literature from a recognized University. Graduates in English have to produce evidence of a minimum of two years (four semesters) academic exposure to French or another language of International communication.
African Language
There is a Special African Language requirement for the Comparative Literature Programme. Any candidate who is deficient in speaking, reading or writing an African language will be required to take an appropriate course in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies and produce evidence of having passed that course.
Requirements for Ph.D Comparative Literature Programme:
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in Literature or M.A. Degree in other related discipline in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
(i) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Theartre & Media Arts
Admission Requirements for PGD Programme in Theartre & Media Arts
To qualify for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma programme, a candidate must obtain a first Degree in the disciplines within the Humanities or a first Degree from any other discipline.
(ii) Master of Arts (MA), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in the following areas:
Requirements for M.A. Theatre Arts
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree in Theatre Arts with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5- point scale or its equivalent in Theatre Arts from a recognized University.
Requirements for M.A. Theatre & Film Studies
Candidates must obtain a first Degree in Theatre and Media Arts or in a related discipline with a CGPA not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale.
Requirements for M.A. Film & Television Studies
Candidates must obtain a first Degree in Film/Television Studies or a related discipline with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale.
Requirements for Master of Fine Arts (MFA – Professional) Programme in Film & Television Studies
To qualify for admission into MFA (professional) programme, the candidate must obtain a first Degree in a related discipline to Film and TV Studies.
Requirements for Ph.D Theatre Arts
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in Theatre Arts in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.

The Ph.D programme will run for a minimum of two years and maximum

Candidates must obtain a first Degree in Theatre Arts. CGPA requirements and duration of programmes are as stated in item a – c above.
Requirements for M.A. English Studies
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent in English Studies from a recognized University.
Requirements for Ph.D English Studies
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in English Studies or related discipline in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.

Requirements for M.A. Foreign Languages and Literatures
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent in Foreign Languages and Literatures from a recognized University or PGD Upper Credit.
Requirements for Ph.D Foreign Languages and Literatures
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.
Qualifications for Admission
To be eligible for admission into Postgraduate Diploma Programme in History and Diplomacy, a candidate must have a good honours Degree not less than Third Class and a CGPA of not less than 1.50 and above in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Law and the Management Sciences.

Qualifications for Admission into the Masters Programme
To qualify for admission into the M.A Degree Programmes of the Department, candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent of the University of Port Harcourt or from any other recognized University in the relevant subjects.
Except for Archaeology/Cultural Heritage Management, candidates from non-History backgrounds will be required to pass through the Department’s Postgraduate Diploma Programme in History and Diplomacy before admission into the MA programmes.
(iii) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programme
Qualifications for Admission
To be eligible for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy programme in History and Diplomatic studies, a candidate must have an MA/M.Sc Degree with a CGPA of 4.00 and above on a 5-point scale in History from any Nigerian University or abroad. Except for Archaeology, candidates from non-History backgrounds are expected to pass through the Department’s Postgraduate Diploma Programme in History and Diplomatic Studies to be admitted into Ph.D Degree programmes. In addition, candidates will be required to present a written proposal on a thesis topic in their chosen field, and score a minimum of 60% in pre-admission oral interview.
Requirements for Postgraduate Diploma in Communication Studies:
To be eligible for admission into the programme, a candidate must have a good honours Degree in any field from any recognized University. Candidates with HND Upper Credit are also eligible for admission into the PGD Programme. Candidates with pass Degree will not be admitted.
Requirements for M.A. Linguistics & Communication Studies:
Candidates wishing to enroll in the Communication component must hold at least a Second Class Honours Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale or a Lower Credit with a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale in Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication, Communication Studies/Arts. Candidates wishing to enroll in the Linguistics component must possess the same qualifications in Linguistics or a subject with a strong linguistic component.
Requirements for Ph.D Linguistics & Communication Studies
Candidates wishing to enroll in the Communication component must hold at least a Masters Degree with a CGPA of at least 3.50 on a 5-point scale in Mass Communication, Communication Studies/Arts. Candidates wishing to enroll in the Linguistics component must possess the same qualifications in Linguistics or a subject with a strong linguistic component.
M.A., Ph.D in Philosophy in the following areas:

All candidates must possess O’Level credit passes in five relevant subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
Requirements for M.A. Philosophy
Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent in Philosophy (single honours) or combined honours Degree with Philosophy as a component.
Requirements for Ph.D Philosophy
Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Philosophy with a CGPA of at least 3.50 or its equivalent in addition to the other faculty requirements.
Requirements for PGD in Religious and Cultural Studies:
Candidates must possess good honours Degree in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Law, Management Sciences, and Science from the University of Port Harcourt or any other institution recognized by the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt.
Requirements for MA in Religious and Cultural Studies:
Admission to the MA programme will be open to candidates with the B.A. Degree in Religious and Cultural Studies, Islamic Studies, Theology or other related disciplines such as Philosophy, History, Sociology and Anthropology on a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale, from the University of Port Harcourt or any other institution recognized by the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt
Requirements for Ph.D Religious and Cultural Studies:
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in Religious and Cultural Studies in addition to the other faculty requirements.

O’Level Requirements
Requirements for M.Sc in Geographic Information System (GIS):
Admission to the M.Sc Degree programme in GIS is open to graduates of this University and other approved universities recognized by Senate with a
minimum of second class Bachelor’s in Science, Social Medicine, Agriculture and Forestry, Environmental Science, Social Sciences and Engineering etc. Work experience in scientific management and policy-oriented establishments will be an added advantage..
Requirements for M.Sc in Watershed and Wetlands Management:
Admission to the M.Sc Degree programme in Watershed and Wetlands Management is open to graduates of this University and other approved universities recognized by Senate. They must either hold the Postgraduate Diploma in Geography and Environmental Management with a CGPA of 3.50 and above or a Bachelors Degree in Geography, Civil, Water and Environmental Engineering, Geological Sciences, Environmental Resource Management, Agriculture and Forestry or Environmental Science with a minimum of second class honours and minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale. Work experience in scientific, management and other related establishments will be an added advantage.
Requirements for Ph.D in Environmental Management:
Admission to the Ph.D Degree programme is open to graduates of this University who have attained a specific level of performance in the M.Sc programme in GIS, Geography and Environmental Management and related disciplines of the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University with at least a CGPA of 3.50 in a 5-point scale.
Requirements for Ph.D in Disaster Risk Management:
Admission to the Ph.D Degree programme in Disaster Risk Management is open to graduates of this University who have attained a specific level of performance in the M.Sc programme in Disaster Risk Management, Geography and Environmental Management and related disciplines of the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University with at least a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale.
(i) Postgraduate Diploma in Sociology (PGDS)
Candidates must possess at least a Third Class in Sociology or a minimum of Second Class Honours lower Division in related disciplines in the Social Sciences and Humanities.
(ii) M.Sc, Ph.D in Sociology in the following areas:
O’Level Requirements
Candidates must have five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Government or History, Economics and any other Social Science subject.
Requirements for Postgraduate Diploma Programme
Candidates must obtain first Degree from recognized Universities with at least a 3rd class or a minimum CGPA of 1.50 on a 5-point scale.
Requirements for M.Sc programme
Candidates must possess a B.Sc Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 or a Postgraduate Diploma with at least a CGPA of 3.50.
Requirements for Ph.D Political and Administrative Studies:
Candidates must have an M.Sc Degree in Political and Administrative Studies with a CGPA of 4.00 in addition to other faculty requirements.
(i) Executive Master’s Degree Programme in Public Administration (MPA)
Requirements for Executive Master’s Degree Programme in PA.
A candidate for the MPA Programme is expected to be a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt or any other approved University with at least a Second Class Honours Lower Division, with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5.00-point scale or 4.20 on a 7- point scale. However, candidates with Third
Class Degree may be considered provided they have relevant employment experience for five (5) years.
DURATION
The Programme is designed to last for twelve calendar months (12), consisting of two semesters and field research/report writing and presentation period.

All Science Ph.D Programmes require a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale and thesis score not lower than 60% (B). All Ph.D candidates are expected to attend a pre-admission oral interview, at which they are REQUIRED to defend their written proposals.
23 DEPARTMENT OF PURE AND INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Science (M.Sc) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
General Entry Requirements for all programmes:
Candidates must have five O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
(i) Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDC)
Candidates with at least a Third Class Degree with a CGPA of not less than 1.50 on a 5-point scale can apply. Candidates with HND certificates are not eligible for the PGDC programmes.
Requirements for M.Sc in Pure & Industrial Chemistry:
Candidates must have a B.Sc in Pure and Industrial Chemistry with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or a PGDC with at least a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale.
Requirements for Ph.D in Pure & Industrial Chemistry:
Candidates must have an M.Sc Degree in Pure and Industrial Chemistry with a CGPA of at least 4.00 on a 5-point scale in addition to the other Faculty requirements
Requirements for PGD Plant Science and Biotechnology:
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Lower Degree (22) or a strong Third Class (3rd) Bachelors’ Degree in Botany/Plant Science, or any good Honours Degree in Microbiology, Agriculture, Crop Science, Biochemistry, Genetics, Biotechnology or related field (depending on the option of the PGD) from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University within or outside Nigeria. Potential Candidates with HND in relevant fields

deemed suitable by the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology’s Graduate Board of Studies would be considered for the requisite programmes.
(ii) M.Sc, Ph.D in the following areas:
General Entry Requirements for all the Programmes:
Candidates must have 5 O’level credits in not more than two sittings in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English Language
Entry Requirements for PGDM:
Candidates must have a B.Sc in Microbiology with a CGPA of 2.00 – 2.99 on a 5-point scale, B.Sc in relevant disciplines e.g. Biochemistry, Plant Science & Biotechnology, Animal & Environmental Biology, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology Technology and Biomedical Technology with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 – 3.99 on a 5-point scale.
Entry Requirements for M.Sc:
Candidates must have a B.Sc Degree in Microbiology with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 – 3.50 on a 5-point scale and a minimum of 4.00 on a 5-point scale in a Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology.
Admission Requirements for M.Sc in Pathogenic Microbiology & Biotechnology
Admisstion into the M.Sc programme in Pathogenic Microbiology and Biotechnology shall be open to the following categories of applicant:

Candidates must have an M.Sc Degree in the relevant Microbiology area with a CGPA of at least 4.00 on a 5-point scale.
Requirements for M.Sc in Animal & Environmental Biology:
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree of the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University in the relevant subject (e.g. Zoology, Biology, Crop Science, Environmental Sciences, Biology Education etc. with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent.
Requirements for Ph.D in Animal & Environmental Biology:
Candidates for the Ph.D programme must have a Masters Degree and should normally have an average of at least 60% or CGPA of 4.00 in the relevant discipline at the Masters level.
For candidates who obtained their Masters exclusively by research assessment, admission will be based on the quality of their thesis. Candidates may be required to attend a pre-admission interview session. Final selection of a candidate shall be based on his/her interview performance and other criteria.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University.
Requirements for M.Sc in Physics:
A minimum of Second Class Lower Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 is required for M.Sc programme of the Department.

Candidates must be holders of the B.Sc Degree in the Sciences or related disciplines obtained from University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University.
Requirements for Masters Programme:
Admission to the Masters Degree Programmes shall be as obtained in general School of Graduate Studies requirements for admission into the M.Sc Programme
Requirements for Ph.D Programme:
All candidates must have five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and three other related science subjects preferably Physics, Chemistry and Biology at O’level
(i) Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (PGDCS)
Requirements for PGDCS in Computer Science
Candidates with 3rd Class Degree from an approved university with a minimum CGPA of 1.50 on a 5-point scale may be considered for admission. Holders of HND in relevant programmes from approved institutions with at least an upper credit in the sciences or related disciplines may also be considered for admission.
(ii) M.Sc in Computer Science
Requirements for M.Sc in Computer Science
Candidates with Bachelors Degree Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an approved University must obtain a minimum of second class lower division with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale. Candidates with PGD in Computer Science must have a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale.

Requirements for Ph.D in Computer Science:
Candidate should have a Masters Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology with a minimum of 4.00 on a 5-point scale and a Dissertation score not lower than 60% (B). Candidates with PGD in Computer Science with at least CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale in Master’s Degree and Dissertation score not lower than 60% may be considered.
Admission Requirements for PGD in Crop & Soil Science:
Prospective candidates must possess at least a Third Class Bachelors’ Degree with a minimum CGPA of 1.50 in related fields.
Requirements for M.Sc in Crop Protection:
Candidates seeking admission into the programme must have a Bachelor of Agriculture or a Bachelor of Science in Crop Science, Horticulture, Agronomy and Forestry or in related fields from a recognized University with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or 2.40 on a 4-point scale.
Have a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the agricultural disciplines listed above with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale or Bachelor’s Degree in a related science with a CGPA of 3.00 plus a PGD in Crop and Soil Science with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or HND (Upper Credit) in a relevant agricultural discipline.

Requirements for M.Sc in Soil Science:
Graduates of the University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved Degree of Bachelor in related fields with at least Second Class Honours Degree, with CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or 2.50 on a 4-point scale.
Appropriate Postgraduate Diploma of the University of Port Harcourt or
other recognized Universities with at least a lower credit pass of 3.50 CGPA on a 5-point scale.
Requirements for M.Sc in Crop Production:
Candidates seeking admission into the programme must:
Have a Bachelor of Agriculture or a Bachelor of Science in Crop Science, Horticulture, Agronomy and Forestry or in related fields from a recognized University with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or 2.40 on a 4-point scale.
Have a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the agricultural disciplines listed above with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5-point scale or Bachelor’s Degree in a related science with a CGPA of 3.00 plus a PGD in Crop and Soil Science with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or HND (Upper Credit) in a relevant agricultural discipline. Fulfill the general requirements as contained in the brochure of the School of Graduate Studies.
Requirements for PGD in Forestry & Wildlife Management:
Candidates must possess at least a second class (Lower Division) Bachelors’ Degree in Forestry or Botany, Biology, Agriculture, Biochemistry, Geology
and other related disciplines obtained from any recognized University. In addition, candidates must have the matriculation requirements of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Port Harcourt. Candidates with Third Class Degree may be admitted for a terminal diploma programme (i.e.), they will not be considered for admission to pursue Master’s Degree thereafter.
Requirements for M.Sc in Forestry and M.Sc in Wildlife & Ecotourism Management:
Candidates for admission into M.Sc programme must have a good Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry/Forest Resources Management/Wood Science or Wildlife Management. The prospective candidates must possess at least a second class (Lower Division) Bachelors’ Degree with a CGPA of at least 3.00 (on a 5-point scale) in Forestry/Forest Resources Management/Wood Science, Wildlife Management or Agriculture, and other equivalent fields obtained from any University recognized by the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt. Candidates must have full Ordinary Level Certificate with a credit level pass in English Language. In exceptional cases, candidates with Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/Biological Science or related field who meet the above stated requirements, but have minimal deficiencies in Forestry, may be admitted. Such deficiencies through approved courses recommended by the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee will be audited.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programme in Animal Science and Master of Science (M.Sc) programme in Animal Nutrition and Agricultural Biochemistry.
Admission Requirements:
Generally, candidates seeking admission into graduate programmes in Animal Science in the University of Port Harcourt shall normally be graduates of the University or any other similar Institutions recognized by the University. They must possess a first Degree, preferably Bachelor of Agriculture (B. Agric, Animal Science option), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc, Animal Science) or in related area. The Degrees must ordinarily be registrable with the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS).
Matriculation requirements for admission into the Animal Science programme for the University of Port Harcourt include credits in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any one of Physics, Economics or Geography at not more than two sittings.
(i) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Animal Science

Admission Requirements for M.Sc in Animal Science:
(a) A good honours Degree in Animal Science or related discipline (of University of Port Harcourt or similar recognized institution) with a minimum of Second Class lower division with CGPA of 3.00 and above on a 5-point scale or 2.40 on a 4-point scale.
(b) HND (Upper Credit) in Animal Science/Animal Production plus PGD in Animal Science/Animal Production, with a CGPA of 3.50 in addition to satisfying the matriculation requirements of the University of Port Harcourt
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Agricultural Economics & Extension, Master of Science (M.Sc) in Agricultural Economics & Master of Science (M.Sc) in Agricultural Extension
Admission Requirements for PGD in Agricultural Economics & Extension:
An applicant should be a graduate of University of Port Harcourt, or a graduate from any other University recognized by the Senate of University of Port Harcourt. Candidates seeking admission into the (PGD) programme in agricultural economics and extension shall possess at least a second class lower Degree in a non-agricultural based discipline or a Third Class Degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension option. Candidates seeking admission with HND must have an upper credit pass. In addition, candidates must possess the matriculation requirements of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Port Harcourt.
Admission Requirements for M.Sc in Agricultural Economics
Candidates seeking admission into the Master of Science Degree programme in Agricultural Economics shall possess:
(a) A Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural economics or its related discipline with a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) with a CGPA of at least 3.00 on a 5-point scale or 2.50 on a 4-point scale from any recognized University.
Admission Requirements for M.Sc in Agricultural Extension
Candidates seeking admission into the Master of Science Degree programme in Agricultural Extension shall possess:

Requirements for Ph.D in Anatomy:
Candidate must have MSc Degree in Anatomy with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 points on a 5-points scale or its equivalent qualification. Interviews are conducted to assess candidates before admission and final selection is based on interview performance.
(i) M.Sc Pharmacology

(ii) Ph.D in Pharmacology: Candidates must possess an M.Sc or an M.Phil Degree or an equivalent Degree in Pharmacology in addition to the other Faculty Requirements with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5-point scale.
Requirements for M.Sc in Immunology Programmes:
A minimum of five O’level credit passes including English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
The course is open to graduates of Medicine, Dentistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Nursing, Biochemistry, Molecular-Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine and Zoology. Candidates who hold a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale in any of the above mentioned courses, from the University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities shall be eligible for admission into the programme (except for the Medical, Dental and Pharmacy graduates whose Degrees are unclassified).
The Course work will be taught in two semesters of 12 months while the student will spend the remaining 6 months in a training attachment and a project work.
(c) Area of specialty – Sports Medicine generally, while the project work will be on Sport of interest.
Admission Requirements:
The Programmes will be open to candidates who possess a first Degree in Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing and other relevant courses allied to Medicine. In addition candidates must have at least three years post Degree experience and must have completed National Youth Service (NYSC) programme. Candidates for admission into the programme will undergo a selection process and only those who are successful will be admitted into the programme.
To serve the interest and needs of all Medical, Health and allied professions who desire the programme, there is need to simultaneously mount two separate programmes, one for medically qualified graduates and another for non-medically qualified professionals who wish to practice Public Health.

Requirements for M.Pharm
Candidates must possess a good first Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University, not below Second Class Honours with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-points scale. Non pharmacy graduates in closely related subjects like Chemistry, Biochemistry and Botany may be considered for admission. Such candidates may be required to take remedial undergraduate courses in Pharmacognosy as recommended by the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee.
Requirements for Ph.D
(i) Candidates who possess the M.Pharm Degree in Pharmacognosy of the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized Universities, with a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-points scale. However candidates with CGPA of 3.00 in their M.Pharm or M.Sc Programmes in the Pharmacognosy or related disciplines may be considered for admission. Such candidates shall be
required to take recommended 700 level/remedial courses which they must pass at an average score of 60% in the first year.
(ii) Candidates with M.Sc/M.Pharm Degree (minimum CGPA of 3.50); M.Phil Degrees in Pharmacognosy, Ethnomedicine, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Botany of the University of Port Harcourt or other approved Universities. Final selection of candidates is by presentation of a research proposal. Part-Time candidates will also be considered.
PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGY
(i) M.Pharm and Ph.D Programmes
Areas of Specialization for M.Pharm:
Requirements for M.Pharm
Candidates must be graduates of Pharmacy from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized Universities with at least a Second Class (Lower Division) or a declassified approved Degree Programme with evidence of good performance in pharmaceutics. Candidates shall be required to satisfy the Department in a selection process.
Areas of Specialization for Ph.D:
Requirements for Ph.D
(i) A graduate of the University of Port Harcourt holding a Masters Degree (M.Pharm) in the specialized field of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology with requirements as stated above for the M.Pharm Programme.
(i) MSc & Ph.D Toxicology
Areas of Specialization:
Requirements for M.Sc Toxicology
Candidates must possess a B.Sc Degree from the University of Port Harcourt or from any other recognized University in any of these disciplines: Biological and Chemical Sciences including (Chemistry, Civil, Agricultural, Chemical and Environmental Engineering), Medical Sciences and Forensic Sciences.
Requirements for Ph.D
Candidates who obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.50 in the relevant written examinations and project on the M.Sc Course in Toxicology of the University of Port Harcourt, or any other recognized University.
Admission Requirement for Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Sports
Duration
The programme is designed to last for two semesters of full time course work.
All Engineering Ph.D programmes require a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale. Candidates would be required to attend an interview before admission and registration for the programme, and will be required to write a qualifying examination.
Requirements for Faculty of Engineering

Requirements:
Candidates must possess a Second Class Bachelor’s Degree in a chosen Engineering discipline with a minimum CGPA of 3.00. The MEM is a
Terminal Degree.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related science discipline, with a minimum CGPA of 3.00. The M.Env.T is a
Terminal Degree.
Requirements for PGDCE
Candidates for PGDCE must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of Third Class in Chemical Engineering or Second Class lower in any other Engineering discipline.
Duration:
The programme shall last for a minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months of full-time study or 36 calendar months and a maximum of 84 calendar months for part-time study.
Requirement for PGDPE:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of Third Class
in Petroleum & Gas Engineering or a minimum of Second Class in any related Engineering Discipline.
(ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT)
Requirement for PGDPT:
Candidates with Degrees in Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, or Metallurgy with a minimum of Second Class Lower Degree or Third Class with at least five (5) years industrial experience are eligible to apply.
(iii) M.Eng., Ph.D in Petroleum Engineering in the following areas:
PGD and Ph.D programmes in Mechanical Engineering
Requirements for PGDME:
Candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering must
possess a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from a reputable university with a minimum of Third Class Honours for graduates of mechanical or mechatronic engineering, or a minimum of second class lower division for graduates of other related engineering field such as marine engineering, mining engineering, agricultural engineering or chemical engineering.
Requirements for Ph.D Admission:
To be admitted into the Ph.D Degree programme in Mechanical Engineering, each candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
(i) Satisfy the general University requirements for admission into the
programme.
(ii) Possess a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum
CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale or a minimum percentage score of 60% obtained from a recognized University.
(iii) Provide a copy of the Master’s Degree transcript and the details of the referees on his/her academic work and
(d) Be successful (score at least 60%) in a proposal presentation/admission screening interview to be organized by the Department.
M.Eng., Ph.D in Civil Engineering in the following areas:
O’Level Admission Requirements:
Candidates must possess at least a credit pass in five subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology to be qualified for admission into M.Eng Programme in Civil Engineering.
Admission Requirements for Master of Engineering (M.Eng)
To be admitted into any of the Specializations in the M.Eng (Civil Engineering) Degree Programme, a candidate must possess a minimum of second class (Honours) Degree in Civil Engineering, with a minimum CGPA above 3.00 on a 5-point scale obtained from the University of Port Harcourt or any other approved University. Preference will be given to those with a CGPA of 3.50 and above (corresponding to second class Honours Upper Division or First Class).
Admission Requirements for Ph.D
Candidates for Admission into Ph.D Civil Engineering Programme must possess the Master of Engineering or Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University with at least a CGPA) of 4.00 on a 5-point scale (corresponding to an average score of a B grade).
All Management Sciences Ph.D Programmes require a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale. All Ph.D candidates are expected to attend a pre-admission oral interview, at which they are REQUIRED to defend their written proposals
All Management Sciences programmes require O’level credit pass in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects.
Requirements for PGD Programmes:
Candidates must possess at least a Third Class Degree in the field of specialization. Other candidates in related Disciplines must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree or a Third Class. For HND holders, a minimum of upper credit is acceptable in the related discipline.
Requirements for MBA Programmes:
Candidates must have B.Sc Degree in the field of specialization with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale in (Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, Marketing). Others from related fields must possess at least a 3.50 on a 5-point scale from PGD programmes.
Requirements for MSc Programmes:
Candidates with a minimum of Second Class B.Sc Degree in the field of specialization with minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its
equivalent.

Holders of MBA in Mgt Sciences with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent.
Department of Finance and Banking
(iv) Master of Finance & Banking / ACIB Linkage Programme (MFB/ACIB): On completion, a graduate will earn the Master of finance & Banking (MFB) Degree from the University of Port Harcourt and an award of an Associateship Certificate by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).
Admission Requirements:
Requirements for Ph.D Programmes:
Candidates must have M.Sc in the field of specialization (Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, Marketing) in addition to the other faculty requirements.
Requirements for Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Programme:
Candidates for the DBA programme must possess an MBA or M.Sc in Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, and Marketing or in an acceptable and closely related area/discipline. The Master’s programme must have had a Dissertation/Research component.
Candidates are required to have had a minimum of 3.50 on a 5- point scale or 3.00 on a 4.00 point scale in their master’s programme.
Working experience of two years attained in a middle management position in the corporate world or in an alternative relevant employment will be an added advantage.
The final selection of candidates for the DBA programme shall be based on the candidate’s performance at an interview to be conducted by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee.
DURATION OF GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
The Programme is to run on a Full-Time basis to last for a minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of 24 calendar months and two consecutive long vacation of eight (8) weeks each for sandwich programme.
Full-Time: Minimum of 24 Calendar Months and Maximum of 36 Calendar Months
The Programmes will last for at least 24 Calendar Months.
Full-Time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
Part-Time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 84 calendar months.
Full-time candidates shall be required to spend a minimum of three (3) years and a maximum of five (5) years from the date of first registration.
Part-time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of five (5) years and a maximum of seven (7) years.
GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS O/LEVEL
All candidates must possess a credit pass in English Language and Mathematics in addition to other O/Level requirements as specified by each Department/ Faculty.
ALL PGD PROGRAMMES
The minimum requirement for the Postgraduate Diploma Programmes is a Bachelor’s Degree in the related disciplines. Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree or Third Class in the related Discipline. For HND holders a minimum of Upper Credit is acceptable in the relevant Departments.
PGDC
For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDC) Programme, candidates with Third Class need not apply.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree of the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized University, in the relevant course with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent. Candidates for the Master’s in Education must have obtained a first Degree in another field and in addition a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with at least an Upper Credit classification. Candidates for the MBA Programme must possess a strong quantitative background. Candidates with PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 to register for Master’s Degree in the relevant field
Ph.D PROGRAMMES
Generally, for the Ph.D Programmes, candidates should have a Master’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or 4.00 depending on the Department or its equivalent grade in the relevant discipline at the Master’s level. Admission will be based on interview performance. Ph.D involves course work and qualifying examination.
MD/MS PROGRAMME
